There is always a transition period when starting something new. Whether it is a new hobby, a new habit, a new job or bringing in a new pet, there will always need to be an amount of time for all involved parties to adjust.
The time within the adjustments can seem endless. Like a never ending parade of errors, the length of time for everyone to get used to the new thing, seems interminable. And then a break through will happen.
Suddenly something isn’t as daunting. Some aspect of the new hobby makes more sense, or the new language you are trying to learn suddenly connects or your new pet answers to their name.
And being that he was running full tilt toward the gate, busted through with his block head and still turned around when I called, I feel is something of a miracle. Does that mean that we are finally through with the missteps and false starts? Heck no! We have plenty of those left to fill out the year. In fact, starting tomorrow I will need to start getting him more used to me being gone, if only for the simple pleasure of going to the grocery store or getting a hair cut.
It is all a trial by error. He and I are getting used to each other and while I revel in his excitement every morning that he woke up safe, I’m also looking forward to him not looking so unsure of whether or not he gets to stay.
Meanwhile, I’m also interviewing again. Who only knows what will happen in the process, but I can say with certainty it will not make me upset one way or the other. Honestly, it kind of sounds like it will be a lot more work, but I think I’d rather have more work than unceremoniously get canned which is always seems to be on the horizon. Either way the process has been kind of interesting, one interview running a good half hour longer than it should and the other wrapping in 20 minutes. I’m not even interested in speculating either way. If I get to the next step, great. If not, I have more interview experience under my belt.
Of course, because I cannot seem to leave anything alone I also, apparently, volunteered to work at one of the neighborhood gardens. I met up with one of the people in charge early this morning and while I don’t believe we are going to be great friends, it does give me a chance to throw down some more seeds in an area that is mostly sunny. It feels so chilly this week, so I’m sure I’ll be wandering down that way with Bear so we can get some planting done and see what chaos we can cultivate. I also am going to separate some of the rosemary I have growing in abundance and take it down there as well. I want to pick up some basil, and put down more thyme, and I believe there should be more sage somewhere in my garden so that I can dry it and then use to keep the vibes in the house relaxed.
It hasn’t worked yet, but there is always a first time.
