My current favorite thing is sitting in my postage stamp of a backyard, with Bear next to me, soaking up the sun or, as we are now, reveling in the encroaching twilight. We have a small bird bath that, for reasons I’m not sure I understand needs to be filled almost twice a day, is constantly busy with bees and birds and the errant lost squirrel. We watch them compete for water
It isn’t quiet by any means. There is road noise from the various streets, kids playing and music bumping, but in my own little square, it is peaceful. And I revel in the wind from the trees and the snores that Bear lets rip. I watch as the sun peeks through the trees’ canopies. While pigeons, cardinals and judgy robins land in my space looking for their next meal.
And I let my mind wander, right up until the first mosquito lands on me and then I’m jumping up, looking for a citronella candle I haven’t already burned to the base before throwing up my hands and stomping indoors.
One day I may get this relaxation thing down. Just not tonight.
