Empire Now

The weather has not been driving me to want to do much aside from snuggle. The artic blast breezing across the country has dropped temps to dangerous and I’m having trouble finding motivation to get downstairs and get more reps in with weights or even pretend a little harder that the rower doesn’t make me nuts.

I’m not sure if the weather is to blame for these headaches that I’m chasing with mediation, but at least twice in the last couple of days I’ve woken up just to take medication so I can try and get some more sleep. That is, of course, after I took some medication before I tried to grab sleep to prevent the oncoming pain. However, it is winter and there are a lot worse problems to have. All I need to do is go through the motions and see if it ends sooner than later.

The more important thing I will have to remember for the next couple of days is to let the water drip in the sink, and turn the space heater on in the basement and make sure I have it aimed at the water main. Another month after this of colder temps and then spring is right around the corner ready to welcome warmer temps, rain and the upcoming planting season.

The structural engineer came out the other day and diagnosed what he found with the house and made suggestions on how to fix it. He suggested dropping at least one if not two piers, but since he doesn’t actually do that work, I’m now reaching out to different companies to see what their quoting looks like and what their suggestions are. Of course, doing a search on the interwebs brings different pricing, but all I can do now is see what the different options will be. I have two scheduled and need to look at a third just to get an idea of quoting, how quickly they can get to work and what material they are looking to use.

I’ll admit I will feel better once we can get this piece sewn up. That would leave the next big indoor issue to be the floors. This version of me didn’t even blink twice when I had to explain to the engineer that he was welcome to use my restroom on the main floor, but that he needed to step lightly as the floor is busted. Honestly I’m fairly certain I should just buy miniature orange construction cones. It would be easier to point out the spots they could put their foot through.

Even with that potential disaster, I feel better knowing that I’m checking boxes off with things I’ve improved on, knowing that I’m moving forward with this project and am able to continue to plan for the future. Perhaps even create my own little empire now.
