Hobbits may have been on to something with a second breakfast. I’m sure nutritionists, doctors, and most anyone who understands the basics of being healthy will disagree, but stick with me for a minute.
Start out light. Perhaps something with fruit, some juices, perhaps a yogurt to get you in a yoga, or exercising mode. Then, after you’ve cleansed your body and your mind, you sit down with coffee, bacon, perhaps an egg or avocado toast. If you’ve done what you are supposed to at the beginning, shouldn’t you have the chance to enjoy what you want later? Not to say that fruit, juice and yogurt aren’t enjoyable, but for some of us, bacon, while it will probably kill you later, may be more decadent.
Which is a roundabout way to start this little journey. I’ve had one career. It was in retail, for about 25 years. There is nothing wrong with retail, it is an interesting full of unique choices and even more unique people. I’ve worked Black Friday before it was even an event, I’ve worked Thanksgiving before there was an uproar about making people work. I’ve learned more about myself as a leader, as a person and as an employee than I ever thought I would. I will be forever grateful for those that gave me a chance, for those that I loved to work for and for those I learned how not to lead, from.
I’ve decided to do something I want to do, a year after walking away. So, I got a certificate in Data Analytics and now I’m in the process of looking for what I want, while learning I may have to create an approximation of it. This website will be my daily check in, where I talk about what I’ve accomplished, what I’m frustrated with and how I’m trying to make something happen. Hopefully you will enjoy the journey, if you have stumbled across this little slice of the internet. However, this is how I’m going to make myself better, and prove to myself that I can do what I’m looking to do.
Which, leads me back to second breakfast. I did what I thought I was supposed to do at the beginning. Now I want to do what I believe I will enjoy. And perhaps, get some bacon out of it too.
Wish me luck…
